Best ZOO site
This is the best of all of the ZOO sites I've seen. How can there be "too many" ZOO sites? I guess there are too many radio stations also?
Wow... look at all the colors!!! Purple... pink.... red... yellow...
(Ah. There was one of those 'flash-backs' they promised...)
Have fun with the site.
Zookeeper, I have copies and originals of a lot of stuff from the first 5 years and my wife Tempie Lindsey has stuff from the last few years.
I also have "Zoo Baboon" comedy shows we aired once a week or so. They're a compilation of National Lampoon, Cheech & Chong, and other comedy albums. They also have a ZOO theme woven through every episode, so much of the material was locally (Dallas) produced by the ZOO jocks.
I also have a copy of the "Fool's Day Parade" that we aired on April Fool's Day 1976. While the parade was a pre-recorded fabrication of Buffalo George Toomer, many people assumed it was real. Buffalo George wrote all the bits and we produced them out as though we had a booth at an actual parade. We really did get some calls at the station from people who had come from out of town to watch the parade and were pissed they couldn't find it.
From "D" MAGAZINE 1983
"On April Fool's Day, hundreds of people gathered downtown for the event, which (April Fool's!) did not happen. Not really, that is. Instead, Toomer and KZEW staff members broadcast the "imaginary extravaganza," using Toomer's hilarious script and taped crowd noises.
As grand marshal of the parade, Buffalo George kept the listening audience abreast of the bogus happenings: The Texas Rangers' float was pulled out of the parade, and the Rangers were ticketed by police for impersonating a major-league baseball team; The Dallas Morning News float couldn't complete the parade route since, according to Toomer, "it had never been able to make a left turn."
The Dallas Marijuana Society's float was seen in hot pursuit of the Frito-Lay float, which carried several hundred pounds of munchies. A good time was had by all, except for those looking for the announced starting point of the parade -the "intersection" of two streets that do not intersect."
We're honored
On behalf of the original staff of The ZOO, we're honored that so many people have such fond memories of The ZOO. We had such fun creating our kind of radio for our listeners.
Thanks for giving us elephant sized support.

zoo sites
there can never be too many damm zoo sites...we have waited too long for the zoo to come back...
Please, add one more to your list
My hopes are to create a tribute to KZEW as closely to what all the people involved would want it to be. Those other sites are ok, I've met some of them and even sent them material, but they are simple static sites and don't offer features like the comment system you just used. I hope them success, but we all don't have the same vision. I think a collaborative effort by the people who were there and the listeners would provide a much more accurate and entertaining experience. The ex-staff I have spoken to, are all humbled by the interest in the ZOO, even after all these years. Many want a site for the ZOO, but don't have the time or know-how to maintain a large site. I saw the opportunity to give back and say thanks, and with help from the DFW community, I think we can do that.
Thanks for the post......Zookeeper
